Master Notes – Corrected Pressing History (based on physical evidence)
All authentic early Yorktown pressings of Somewhere Outside — including white-label and multicolour variants — use the same lacquer, confirmed by identical runouts:
YT-40001 scratched out → YT-50001 hand-inscribed
No clean “50001” matrices have ever been verified.
This contradicts long-standing claims (Capitol6000, Popsike anecdotes attributed to band members) suggesting that the white label was a later “remastered” pressing or that multiple lacquers existed. These sources appear to describe only the later multicolour pressing, not the earliest multicolour pressings which share the crossed-out 40001 matrix.
Conflicting reports place the size of the white-label batch at 330 copies, 1,800 copies, or ~200 distributed; however, such statements have no corresponding matrix changes and all white-label copies examined so far derive from the same corrected lacquer.
All confirmed early copies — white and multicolour — remain Capitol-distributed. No Arc-distributed original LP has been documented.
