About
This is a seminal LP from one of the pioneers of what we now call rap or hip hop. This album provided a mixture of jazz, poetry and funk that at combined topical headlines with timeless messages. While on the surface, Scott-Heron may appear to be akin to Roy Ayers or even Curtis Mayfield, Scott-Heron's unique vocal style and unfliching eye merged with his own inner turmoil to make him more of a Kurt Cobain of Jazz/Soul music.
