About
Nordic folk ensemble Wardruna take the darkness and ambience from their predecessors—which include Norwegian metal bands Mayhem and Burzum—and mold them into their own aggressive style. Tracks like “Heimta Thurs” and “Hagal” are legitimately scary, relying on ominous percussion and ghostly strings to achieve an ancient gloom, while cuts like “Laukr” use vocal chants and raw, natural sounds like rushing water to produce feelings of imminent danger.
