Drawing heavily from their 21st-century output, Enslaved’s first live album sends listeners on a journey across vast expanses of Viking-metal muscle, prog gymnastics, and blackened screeches. The ethereal textures drenching their studio records take a back seat to raw guitar swells that crush eardrums like tidal waves (“Building with Fire”) and hyper-percussive, blast-beat-fueled gallops (“Convoys to Nothingness”). The Norwegians also transform Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” into a black-metal throwdown that’s soaked in feedback and anchored to an apocalyptic military march.
