About
**Remission** is a 1984 EP by Canadian electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy, their record label debut and first release with Nettwerk. The 12‑inch EP originally featured six tracks; in 1985 it was released on cassette with five additional song, expanding it to a full album. This expanded version became the standard version of *Remission*. *Remission* was certified gold by Music Canada on January 31, 2000 In December 1984, *Remission* was distributed through Nettwerk as Skinny Puppy’s first major release. Despite being preceded by the limited-release *Back & Forth* EP, *Remission* is seen as the band’s debut effort. Most issues after 1984 were expanded with five extra track, turning it into a full studio album. In 1993, Nettwerk issued *Remission* on CD with the expanded 1985 track list. Its first CD appearance had actually been in 1987 as part of the compilation *Bites and Remission*, which combined *Remission* with the album *Bites*. That same year also saw the European release *Remission & Bites*, which preserved the original track sequences of each. On May 17, 2018, cEvin Key released “Coma,” an instrumental from the *Remission* era, on his YouTube channel. Both *Remission* and the follow‑up *Bites* were created before Dwayne Goettel joined the band in 1986 and leaned more into synthpop and electro compared to later work. *Remission* is known as one of the first commercial releases to utilize the Roland TR‑909 drum machine. In 2013 the album *Weapon* was released as a sort of spiritual successor to both *Remission* and *Bites*. It featured a re‑recorded version of “Solvent” from *Remission* and was deliberately produced using vintage equipment to mimic the early‑’80s sound.
