About

Poly-Currents is an album by American jazz drummer Elvin Jones recorded September 26, 1969 in the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs and released on the Blue Note label (BST 84331). This is the classic Elvin album. Joe Farrell, George Coleman and Pepper Adams are on saxophone, Wilbur Little on bass and Candido Camero on conga. This music is not just about multiple meter. It’s beyond meter, harmony, and tight structure. There’s no piano on the date so many tunes seem to lack harmonic center, relying on the bass to keep time and the horns to hint at chord. Jones is constantly shifting around the set letting the rhythms develop as Camero locks into him. Personnel Elvin Jones - drums Fred Tompkins - flute (#5) George Coleman - tenor saxophone (#1-4) Joe Farrell - tenor saxophone, English horn, flute, bass flute Pepper Adams - baritone saxophone (#1-3) Wilbur Little - bass Candido Camero - congas (#1-3) .
