About

Pelusón Of Milk is the tenth solo studio album by Argentine musician Luis Alberto Spinetta. It was recorded and released in 1991 by EMI Odeon. It was released simultaneously in three formats (LP, cassette and CD), whose contents and durations differ. The vinyl LP version includes eleven tracks divided into two side, the cassette version includes twelve track, while the CD version includes fifteen track. The album was chosen as the best of the year by the Annual Survey of the Sí Supplement of the newspaper Clarín.2 The song "Seguir viviendo sin tu amor" was placed at number 33 among the 100 best songs in the history of Argentine rock according to the survey carried out in 2007 by Rolling Stone magazine and the MTV network. Video clips were filmed for "Seguir viviendo sin tu amor" and "La montaña". Two of the songs on the album - "Cielo de ti" and "Seguir viviendo sin tu amor" - were performed by Spinetta at the historic Spinetta y las Bandas Eternas concert in 2009, but only the former was released on the show's CD and DVD. The songs on the album were composed and performed personally by Spinetta, with occasional collaborations on some of them by Juan Carlos "Mono" Fontana, Claudio Cardone, Guillermo Arrom and Javier Malosetti. "Panacea" has lyrics by Roberto Mouro. The album was presented at the Teatro Gran Rex in Buenos Aires on December 5, 1991. Historical Context Spinetta had just released two studio albums that had won awards as the best of the year (Téster de violencia in 1988 and Don Lucero in 1989), a live album (Exacta, 1990), a compilation album (Piel de piel, 1990), and a music workshop titled El sonido primordial (1990), which was later published as a book. After such a busy schedule, which also included receiving an electric shock during a concert, Spinetta distanced himself somewhat from his band and retreated into the private space of his family. At the end of 1990, his wife Patricia became pregnant with Vera, and both her pregnancy and birth were deeply felt by all members of the family. It was in this context that Spinetta composed and recorded Pelusón of milk in his home studio (Cintacalma), a title that directly alludes to this situation. Argentina was leaving behind two dramatic hyperinflationary outbreaks in 1989 and 1990 that plunged most of the population into poverty, while successive impunity laws left criminals who had committed massive human rights violations in the 1970s and 1980s free. After an album "for thought" like Téster de violencia (Violence Tester) and an album "for feeling" like Don Lucero, Spinetta distanced himself from his band and public appearances to focus on his family life, awaiting the arrival of his wife's baby, who was finally born naturally at home, surrounded by the whole family. Pelusón of milk is the result of this introspection, reminiscent of other albums created under similar circumstance, such as Artaud and Kamikaze. The musician himself described the album as "a homey Spinetta." The album was recorded between June and September 1991 in the studio Spinetta had set up two years earlier at his home on Elcano Street, number 3200, in the Colegiales neighborhood. Originally called Cintacalma, the studio was later renamed La Diosa Salvaje when he expanded it to a location on Iberá Street, in response to the record companies' aggressive behavior. Spinetta regretted not having recorded the album in a more modern format. Title The title is a metaphor for a baby. In the acknowledgments written on the album sleeve, Spinetta thanks Patricia Salazar above all, who inspired the album. The expression is amplified by the use of the augmentative applied to a naturally small object, such as a piece of fluff and a baby, combining it with the maternal vitality conveyed by milk, using its universally understood meaning in English. Cover The cover features a photo of Spinetta in a suit and tie, his head tilted and looking down, in ochre tone. The back cover is a very similar photo, slightly enlarged and blurred, but in blue tone. The inside cover has the same photo, even more enlarged and in ochre tone. On the inner sleeve, one side repeats the photo, but completely blurred and in red tone, while the other side—where the acknowledgments are—has a perfectly focused photo without any effect, the only one in which Spinetta is looking you in the eye and with a slight smile. All photos are by Dylan Martí. Content The album's content is linked to Spinetta's introspective family life during the anticipation of his daughter Vera's birth. Recorded entirely at his home, with occasional collaborations from other musician, the tracks reflect the intimacy and sound of his family. In the acknowledgments included in the album's inner sleeve, Spinetta thanks Dante and Catarina for their samples and Valentino for his drumming. Two tracks from the album, "Seguir viviendo sin tu amor" and "La montaña", were also released as music video, directed by Eduardo Dylan Martí. .
