About

"Parallels" is the sixth studio album by American progressive metal band Fates Warning, released on October 29, 1991, by Metal Blade Records. The album reached number 20 on the US Billboard Heatseekers chart. James LaBrie, who had recently joined Dream Theater, provided backing vocals on the song "Life in Still Water". A special edition of "Parallels" was released by Metal Blade on March 16, 2010. It contains a remastered version of the original album, a bonus disc featuring live and demo recordings, and a DVD. Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic rated "Parallels" three out of five stars and described it as Fates Warning's "biggest commercial if not artistic success". He also identified "Eye to Eye", "Point of View" and "We Only Say Goodbye" as highlights of the album. "Collector's Guide to Heavy Metal" gave the album a rating of 9 out of 10, while Rock Hard rated it 10 out of 10. In 2005, "Parallels" was ranked number 371 in Rock Hard magazine's book "The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time".
