About
On their 1990 debut, this Afrocentric hip-hop squad brewed a provocative blend of fast raps, funky beats, and meditations on life in New York, which they describe on “Feels So Good” as a “powder keg.” As the deceptively laconic Grand Puba explains on “Wake Up,” they navigate their rough urban terrain with “knowledge of self.” That self-empowerment doctrine is evident throughout as they admonish against drug use on “Slow Down” and invoke their activist spirit on “Concerto In X Minor.”
