About
What a comeback. After recovering from tendinitis and a split with Immortal vocalist Abbath, Norwegian black-metal legend Demonaz lays down guitar tracks for the first time in 20 years on Northern Chaos Gods. He taps into newfound aggression and progression, particularly on swashbuckling songs like “Gates to Blashyrkh,” “Where Mountains Rise,” and “Called to Ice.” And drummer Reidar “Horgh” Horghagen sounds like he sprouted extra limbs on “Blacker of Worlds” and “Into Battle Ride.” Over this muscular cacophony, Demonaz relays tales of frostbitten apocalypse: “All light from worlds disappear/I lurk the paths where grimly woods near/Frozen gates call me from there,” he shrieks on the nine-minute closer, “Mighty Ravendark.”
