About

Being the only studio album from Choking Victim out of two EPs and a single and immediately disbanding after release; No Gods / No Managers would be released on March 23rd, 1999 under Hellcat Record. No Gods / No Managers is an album that engulfs itself into dark themes like pessimistic and nihilistic philosophy. Anarchism, and anti-religious material; with the album cover featuring satanic imagery like: an upside down cro, the Sigil of Baphomet, Baphomet himself and pitchfork. Outside of the abrasive artwork for this album, No Gods / No Managers' lyrical material promotes anti-capitalist, anarchist, political and their vagrant; drifter lifestyle that can be heard on 500 Channel; their most popular track that isn't a single, and Crack Rock Steady. No Gods / No Managers further double downs on it's anti-capitalist messages by not featuring a barcode on some of the first pressings of this album in the U.S; and even uses excerpts and lectures from a political scientist Michael Parenti, a political scientist. No Gods / No Managers is a play on the word, "No god, no masters". Which is derived from an anarchist motto/phase. With the release of this album, Choking Victim would immediately gain notoriety in the punk scene and so as this album. With it's refreshing new sound and influences of ska punk, crust punk and anarcho-punk Choking Victim wouldn't be the only ones with this unique sound, as their influence would be later heard on many nascent bands like Star Fucking Hipsters and No-Cash after their disbandment and help diversify this whole new music scene/wave called crack rock steady. While some tracks on here like Suicide and Moneyl would be featured on this album, it's worth noting that both tracks would have different recordings compared to their debut. .
