About

Beats break out of the basement on a murky, sumptuous masterpiece from U.K. visionary Roni Size. The hectic wobble of jungle—most potent on “Let’s Get It On”—forms the spine of New Forms but Size reveals his mastery with panoramic scope (few debut albums clock in at 78 minutes) and a classicist’s eye. “Heroes” welds a warm ragga melody to stuttering drums, and “Brown Paper Bag” is nine minutes of jazz-influenced expansiveness.
