About
All the studio recordings in Muddy Waters' late-career string of Johnny Winter–produced albums bear a raw, live feel, and the concert recording in this batch bristles with urgency and electricity. Muddy was in the middle of his comeback phase when these performances were captured, and he brings a bold, larger-than-life feeling to everything from Sonny Boy Williamson's "Nine Below Zero" to his own steamy, slow-burning "She's Nineteen Years Old." Backed by Winter and his faithful henchmen (Pinetop Perkins, James Cotton, etc.), Waters sounds more like a man at the peak of his powers than one near the end of his run.
