About
While Lambchop made their name with an eccentric version of country, 2012’s Mr. M comes off more like chamber music. Draped in shivering strings and leader Kurt Wagner’s creamy croon, the album proves subtle and sumptuous yet still deeply quirky, with Wagner casually swearing during the very opening line. But it’s still the smoothest of rides, gently prompted by the crystalline twang and tidal flow of “Gone Tomorrow” and the airy whiffs of Philly soul on the mostly instrumental “Gar.”
