About
Released several months after <i>Hot Rocks</i>, this is that conservative collection's eccentric complement — and more. Even the most familiar songs ("The Last Time," "Lady Jane," "She's a Rainbow") have odd twists, and a few head to wonderful whimsy ("Dandelion") or into the ozone ("2000 Light Years From Home"). But even better, this album brought the first American releases of eight rarities, including offbeat psychedelic nuggets "We Love You" and "Child of the Moon," Allen Toussaint's "Fortune Teller" (without the crowd noises added to make it seem like a concert recording on "Got Live If You Want It"), Chuck Berry's "Bye Bye Johnny," and Muddy Waters' "I Can't Be Satisfied."

The second compilation, following Hot Rocks 1964-1971, released by and for the US and Canadian markets, after the termination of the Stones’ contract with ABKCO and Decca. Where Hot Rocks concentrated mainly on the biggest hits, More Hot Rocks features a selection of singles, B-sides and album tracks. It runs in chronological order across the first three sides; side four comprises tracks that were previously unreleased in the US. This is alluded to in Andrew Loog Oldham’s liner notes: “8 from the brown cookie bag baked yesteryear and preserved and never before sold in your local deli”.
