In early 1954 Vaughn Monroe was the first to record the song "Mister Sandman" on the RCA Victor label Mister Sandman / They Were Doin' The Mambo The RCA version lacked the complex vocal harmonies found in many later versions. The song was quickly recorded and released by "Four Aces featuring Al Alberts" many months before the Chordettes released their version charting at No. 1 on the Cash Box Top 50, in a tandem ranking of the versions.
