About
Inspired by a character created by their artist friend Ken Kagami, experimental rock group Deerhoof's sixth album, Milk Man, is the sonic equivalent of its cover art depicting a smiling but bleeding character. Deerhoof pair whimsical melodies with violent sonic shifts, often in the same song ("Milking"). The blissful, jazzlike "Desaparecere," built atop languid keyboards and Satomi Matsuzaki's gentle coos, leads into the chaotic guitar duel "Rainbow Silhouette of the Milky Rain"; the minimalist organ-fueled closer "New Sneakers" manages to feel both sweet and unsettling.
