About
Diana Ross’ signature softness is a perfect fit for these holiday selections, as The Supremes nail the nostalgic glow of chestnuts like “White Christmas” and “Silver Bells.” But their 1965 Christmas album does more than just add sleigh bells to their established sound. Playful vocalizing freshens up “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” while the unlikely addition of “My Favorite Things” pays off in vibraphone-kissed jazziness. And “Little Bright Star”—topped with both timpani and harmonies—is as bouncy and breathy as anything in the trio’s catalog.
