"Lotta Love" is a Neil Young composition that was recorded by performer Nicolette Larson reaching # 8 on Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 chart in February 1979 and reaching # 1 on the Easy Listening music chart and as the hit # 10 Adult Contemporary Music of the Year.
"Lotta Love" was also a hit in Australia (# 11) and New Zealand (# 22). However, it ended up being a flower of a day, as other Nicolette Larson songs never achieved such fame.
Larson had formed a personal relationship with Young while endorsing him at American Stars' n Bars; although driven by Young in her car one day Larson played a cassette that included the demo of "Lotta Love" Larson told Neil Youngl "what a beautiful song" and Young told him that the song was hers, if she wanted to sing it. Young made his own version of "Lotta Love" for his album Comes a Time; where Larson participated as second vocalist for the album but not for the track of "Lotta Love", a free version that highlights the melancholy of the song.
In February 1998, friends and associates of Nicolette Larson, who passed away on December 16, 1997, held a tribute at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, donating the proceeds of $ 165,000 for UCLA Children's Hospital. In 2009, She & Him released a cover of "Lotta Love" including it on their single "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?".
