Sound DNA
- Soul & Funk
Recorded in April 1972, but not released until over a year later in 1973. Crouch was unhappy with the recording because the band didn't meet his standards. The only performances kept from the original recordings were Andrae's piano, his vocals and some of the crowd noise. When they started to re-record and overdub, this release changed from "Live At Carnegie Hall" to " 'Live' At Carnegie Hall."
All guitar and bass parts were re-recorded and played by Hadley Hockensmith, organ tracks were replaced by Harlan Rogers and Fletch Wiley added solos. Bill Maxwell did all the drum tracks trying to match the uneven pace of the original recordings.
Additionally, the last substitution involved vocals replacing Sondra "Blinky" Williams who was under contract with Motown and singing in Sammie Davis Jr.'s revue at the time. They refused to let her name or vocals appear on the release. So, Crouch turned to Phyllis St. James to re-record those vocal parts.
