About
Ahmed Gallab’s been melding multiple genres into bright, infectious pop as Sinkane for six albums now. Constant touring and a sideline as leader of The Atomic Bomb Band, the all-star tribute to Nigerian funk legend William Onyeabor featuring Damon Albarn and David Byrne, has finessed his songcraft. Whether he’s fusing psychedelic soul and reggae (“The Way”), re-arranging disco to Krautrock beats (“Telephone”), or instilling funk into Afrobeat (“Favorite Song”), the results are sparkling and seductively direct.
