Grandaddy’s first album since 2006’s <i>Just Like the Fambly Cat</i> picks up precisely where they left off, with Jason Lytle detailing his romantic and existential anxieties over a bittersweet union of chugging, pastoral rock and sparkling electronica. On songs written during a difficult break-up, Lytle’s fragile vocal is heart-wrenching, whether he’s conjuring lovesick helplessness on “The Boat Is in the Barn” or planning to make a home on the roof of a big-box store (“Way We Won’t”).
