About

<i>La Saboteuse</i> finds trumpeter Yazz Ahmed arriving at artistic maturity, mining a sound that reflects her Middle Eastern heritage and her immersion in the British jazz scene. Shabaka Hutchings, on bass clarinet throughout, provides a throaty, low-register counterpoint to Ahmed’s warm, brassy eloquence. Vibraphonist Lewis Wright (on “The Lost Pearl”) and keyboardist Naadia Sheriff (on “Jamil Jamal”) solo with deep harmonic insight. Corrina Silvester’s eclectic percussion brings a sense of immediacy to the heavily electric, atmospheric mix.
