About

Kamikaze is the fourth solo album by Argentine musician Luis Alberto Spinetta. Released in April 1982, coinciding with the military occupation of the Falkland Islands on April 2, which led to the Falklands War. With a predominantly acoustic and intimate sound, the album brings together songs from various period, including "Barro tal vez," one of Spinetta's earliest song, written when he was still a teenager. Its title, Kamikaze, as well as the song of the same name and the tracks "Águila de trueno" I and II, refer to sacrifice and the existential value of that human behavior, which, in the context of the Falklands War, completely redefined its meaning. Through the concept of "Kamikaze," Spinetta addresses a multidimensional meaning, from the role of passion in life to sacrifice, including the act of dying for a cause, the artist's resistance to commercial and public impositions and temptation, as well as the risk involved in creation. .
