About

It’s Alive is the sixth album by The Ozark Mountain Dardevils and is a 2-record set recorded live in concert through Missouri and Kansas with the Enactron truck in April 1978. It is their final A&M Records release before moving to Columbia Record. A fine, fine concert recording from one of the most underrated bands to emerge from the 1970s country rock scene. But as any fan of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils can attest, they were much more than a simple country rock group. Ye, they could deliver country-tinged tunes with sweet harmony and thick-as-grits arrangement. But they could also plug in those electric guitars and go to town, or slow things down and do a melt-your-heart ballad. And it’s all here on this live album. Maybe that doesn’t make it cohesive, but it sure makes for a good listen. The big hits are all here, with a crunchy-textured “Jackie Blue” and “If You Wanna Get to Heaven” saved for the end, but the best number here is an acoustic version of “Satisfied Mind” cut live in a men’s shower backstage at an arena in Springfield, MO. Any album that begins with “Walkin’ Down the Road” has got a lot going for it from the get-go. If you enjoyed this band’s studio albums over the years —and they were all fine ones — don’t miss this concert recording too. It’s sure to bring back good memories and smiles a-plenty.
