About
"Ill Na Na" is the debut studio album by American rapper Foxy Brown. It was released by Def Jam Recordings on November 19, 1996, and reissued in the UK on September 29, 1997, with the added song "Big Bad Mamma". Brown began working on the album after being discovered by the production team Trackmasters and appearing on several singles by LL Cool J, Case and Jay-Z. The success of those appearances sparked a bidding war in early 1996, which Def Jam ultimately won, signing the 17-year-old rapper in March. Produced largely by Trackmaster, "Ill Na Na" features guest appearances from Blackstreet, Havoc, Method Man, Kid Capri and Jay-Z. The album's lyrics center on fashion, sex and mafia-inspired theme. "Ill Na Na" debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 with 128,000 copies sold in its first week. It has sold over 1.4 million copies and earned a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It also received Gold certification in Music Canada (MC) and Silver certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). Three singles were released from the album. "Get Me Home" was issued on September 15, 1996, reaching number 42 on the Billboard Radio Songs chart. The second single, "I'll Be", released on March 4, 1997, became a major commercial succe, peaking at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Brown's highest-charting single. The track was later ranked number 52 on VH1's "100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs". "Big Bad Mamma", released July 28, 1997, was included on the soundtrack to the film "How to Be a Player" and added to the European reissue of the album. It reached number 53 on the Billboard Hot 100. .
