Channeling music through the rainbow prism of her Nigerian heritage, Ibibio Sound Machine's Eno Williams shows off a mind-blowing amalgam of influences on her debut. She evokes thousands of years of history on traditionally inspired songs like "Ibibio Spiritual," calls to mind both '70s funk and sleek Eurodisco on horn-backed tracks like "The Tortoise," and modernizes old-school Nigerian highlife on the kinetic "I'm Running." Other cuts, like the ethereal "Voice of the Bird," sound almost futuristic, making her a rare bird indeed.
