About

Huey Lewis and the News is the self-titled debut studio album by rock band Huey Lewis and the News, released in 1980. In 1979, the band performed under the name Huey Lewis and the American Express. Under this moniker, they released a single and secured a recording contract with Chrysalis Records at the end of the year. The album was recorded within three weeks and produced by Bill Schnee, known for his work with Boz Scaggs and Pablo Cruise. Chrysalis executives were concerned that the inclusion of "American Express" in the band's name could lead to legal action from the credit card company of the same name. Consequently, the band changed their name to "Huey Lewis and the News" in January 1980. The album did not enter the Billboard 200, though it reached the "Bubbling Under the Top LPs" chart. Prior to the album's release, the track "Who Cares?" was featured in the 1979 motion picture Rock 'n' Roll High School.
