Friction, Baby; the second studio album by Better Than Ezra-- although keeping its rustic roots-- did not match up to the success of Deluxe. No one can tell you why, except that the songs were written for an earlier audience. It remained substantial as the band wrote about homeless people, suicide, tumultuous relationship, and 'Mejor de Ezra.' There are some scary lyrics in "Normal Town" and "Scared, Are You?" (which sounds like a challenge and a confession at the same time, doesn't it?). Funnily enough, there are even some songs in here that would be perfect for a hipster playlist. "King of New Orleans" was the first single off the record, peaking at number 5 on U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Track, number 7 in U.S. Billboard Album Rock Track, and number 62 on U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Airplay. It also reached number 3 on Canada Alternative 30. "Desperately Wanting," the second single off the record, peaked at number 48 on the Billboard Top 100. It also reached number 10 on U.S. Billboard Album Rock Track, number 11 on U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Track. It also reached number 13 on Canada Alternative 20. "Long Lost" and "Normal Town" failed to chart. .
