This diverse live album from 1975 captures Herbie Hancock at a peak, bridging the gap between his stormy ‘60s post-bop and the funky fusion he mastered during the ‘70s. He revisits his “Maiden Voyage” with an extended solo passage before his agile band joins in to kick the proceedings into the future. The muscular drumming of Mike Clark and busy bass-playing of Paul Jackson provide a protean foundation for frantic workouts like “Actual Proof” and slinking jams like his version of “Watermelon Man.”
