One of ABBA's biggest hits, "Fernando" was conceived as a Frida solo track (opens in a new tab) in Swedish, but it was soon realised the track had potential internationally and a version in English was recorded for ABBA. Since no other new ABBA track except "Dancing Queen" had been recorded at the time (and the only question was which one would be released as an A-side first), the B-side had to be sourced from past ABBA releases. Most commonly, tracks from the previous album "ABBA" (1975) were used: "Hey Hey Helen", "Tropical Loveland", "Rock Me" or "Intermezzo No. 1", but also from "Waterloo" (1974), "Hasta Mañana" and "Dance".
"Mamma Mia" apparently wasn't released as a single in Mexico and the track appears as B-side to "Fernando". Similarly, the former A-side track "I Do, I Do..." appears as B-side of the Uruguay version. 1980 U.S. release contains the Spanish version of "Fernando" as A-side, with "Al Andar" ("Move On" in Spanish) as B-side.
