About
The perky songs of Jack Peñate’s debut, <i>Matinée</i>, captured a crossover wave in indie pop, but for <i>Everything Is New</i>, he and producer Paul Epworth went in search of something else. It’s a classic exploratory second record, stuffed full of influences: highlife guitars, Tropicália, disco rhythms. The musical experiments result in a dancier, more starry-eyed and euphoric Peñate, but all his new colors are kept within the lines of solidly built, heartfelt pop.
