Epiphany: The Best Of Chaka Khan Volume One by Chaka Khan

Epiphany: The Best Of Chaka Khan Volume One is a Soul & Funk album by Chaka Khan, originally released in 1996. On Gatefold: 27 pressings tracked, owned by 5 collectors.

About

This collection's title isn’t figurative: Chaka Khan’s voice is an epiphany, her guiding light through decades of visionary soul. She growls and shouts over a funky live version of “Tell Me Something Good,” riffs with Dizzy Gillespie on “And the Melody Still Lingers On (Night in Tunisia),” and matches Melle Mel’s hot-blooded rap with steamy agitation on the electro gem “I Feel for You.” Epiphany includes previously unreleased tracks, like a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Everywhere” filled with smooth jazz and island vibes.

Sound DNA

 • Soul & Funk

Khan's first career encompassing compilation. Although subtitled "Vol. 1", it remains without a sequel.
Tracks include 8 previously released solo Khan tracks and 2 from the Rufus & Chaka Khan era ("Ain't Nobody", "Tell Me Something Good"). 6 tracks were new at the time, recorded for Khan's 10th, unreleased, solo album "Dare You To Love Me" ("Love Me Still" and the last 5 tracks in the program). A further 7th new track ("It Ain't Easy Lovin' Me") is included on the Japanese edition of "Epiphany".
"I Feel For You" was originally recorded by Prince, "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac. "Never Miss The Water" featuring Me'shell Ndegéocello was the only internationally released single from the album.
