"Eonian" is the ninth studio album by the Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir. It was released on 4 May 2018 and was the band's first album of original material since "Abrahadabra" (2010). The album was also the fifth and final studio release to feature lead guitarist Galder before his departure from the band in August 2024. Production of "Eonian" began by at least 2012 but experienced several delays before its eventual release. The album was self-produced by the band, while engineering duties were handled by Jens Bogren. During the period between "Abrahadabra" and "Eonian", Dimmu Borgir renewed their contract with Nuclear Blast. Members of the band later stated that family life contributed to the extended gap between release, as several members became fathers during that time. Silenoz described the album's musical direction as emphasizing both stronger symphonic arrangements and a more pronounced black metal sound. In April 2018, the band announced a limited North American tour for August 2018, including performances in Las Vega, Chicago, Toronto, and New York City. The album's first single, "Interdimensional Summit", was released on 23 February 2018 as a 7-inch vinyl single accompanied by a promotional video. The song received mixed reactions from listener, particularly because of its incorporation of folk metal element. A second single, "Council of Wolves and Snakes", was released on 30 March 2018 along with a music video. .
