About

El Valle Interior is the third and final studio album by Argentine band Almendra, released in 1980. In late 1979, Almendra's long-awaited return took place, marking a significant milestone in the Argentine music scene at the time. After a series of concerts and a forced hiatu, during which Luis Alberto recorded Spinetta Jade's first album, they finally completed the recording that would document what Almendra could sound like in the '80. This production was recorded in the USA, at Conway Studios in Los Angele. More than just a mere "souvenir" of the reunion, the recording rightfully became one of the great albums of the era. The album was launched at the Obras Sanitarias Stadium on December 5th and 6th, 1980, with both shows packed to capacity. The album was out of print from 1995 until its reissue in 2018. The members of Almendra have generally stated that the album did not achieve the success and impact they had hoped for. However, the album showcases the musical growth and maturity they had achieved over the past decade. It also features outstanding tracks such as "El fantasma de la buena suerte", one of Spinetta's favorite, "Amidama," "Miguelito, mi espíritu ha partido a tiempo", and "Buen día, día de sol", as well as notable songs by Emilio del Guercio: "Las cosas para hacer" and "Cielo fuerte (amor guaraní)". The album was presented on a 32-city tour, the first major tour by an Argentine band, which began at Obras on December 6th and 7th and ended on February 15th, 1981, at the La Falda Festival in Córdoba. Afterward, the band broke up, once again affected by personal problem, especially between Spinetta and Molinari. The massive youth turnout in response to Almendra's return paved the way for increasingly large rock concerts during the dictatorship, which would explode after the Falklands War in 1982. .
