About

Dixie-Narco is an extended play (EP) by Scottish rock band Primal Scream, released on 27 January 1992 through Creation Records. Its lead track is "Movin' on Up", originally released on the Screamadelica album. This was the only official Primal Scream release to contain the song "Screamadelica" (which was recorded during sessions for the Screamadelica album) until the song appeared on the 20th anniversary edition of the Screamadelica album. The remaining two tracks were recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis during November 1991. 'Carry Me Home' was originally written by Dennis Wilson for The Beach Boys' 1973 album Holland, although it was not included on that album.

Released February, 1992, the "Dixie-Narco EP" was recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis, and allowed Primal Scream to indulge their love of U.S. music history. Lead track "Movin' On Up" is the group's gospel-tinged attempt to recreate the Rolling Stones' sound circa the album "Exile On Main Street", but updated for the post-acidhouse generation. It is mixed by veteran producer/mixing engineer Jimmy Miller, who had worked with the Stones. The song "Carry Me Home" is cover of a song by Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys. "Screamadelica" is a long, blissful track of balearic-influenced indie-dance with lead vocals by Denise Johnson, and, despite its name, the song did not actually appear on the album of the same title. The EP title "Dixie-Narco" was taken from a U.S.-based manufacturer of beverage vending machines.
