About
Almost a decade before “I Touch Myself” made them stars, Divinyls’ first proper LP bottled all their future potential. Desperate is loaded with anxious, energized New Wave that more than lives up to the album’s title. Chrissy Amphlett may play a pouting schoolgirl on the front cover, but she’s all fiery passion in the grooves. Highlights like the hard-charging “Boys In Town” and the zanier “Science Fiction” see the band beat Blondie and Pretenders at their own game, turning acid-tongued lyrics into breathy provocations.
