About

Desatormentándonos is the debut album by Argentine rock band Pescado Rabioso, released in 1971. After Almendra's breakup, Spinetta embarked on a long tour of Europe for most of 1971. Upon his return, he formed the trio Pescado Rabioso with Black Amaya (drums) and Osvaldo "Bocón" Frascino (bass), who was later replaced by David Lebon. This lineup debuted in May 1972. Shortly after, during the recording of Desatormentándono, Carlos Cutaia joined on keyboard. In 1972, Argentina was experiencing a period of political upheaval. The ruling military dictatorship, which called itself the "Argentine Revolution," was in retreat due to the large-scale popular and youth uprisings that began with the Cordobazo in 1969, and the formation of guerrilla group. It had been forced to lift the ban on Peronism, allow former president Juan Domingo Perón, overthrown in 1955, to reside in the country, and call for democratic elections in March 1973, which Peronism won by a wide margin. "Desatormentándonos" is an album of blue, psychedelia, and heavy rock, from a time when heavy rock was just beginning to gain traction worldwide, alternating lyrical and choral fragments with heavily distorted electric guitar. Spinetta imbued the album with a spirit of rebellion and a paranoid mentality stemming from the French leg of his travels and the historical moment in his country and among his youth. The two texts included in the album sleeve end with the same postscript: "Yo te amo BEATLES.". Spinetta thus reaffirms the crucial influence the Beatles had on him, in an album that acknowledges more direct influences from Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. The album cover was designed by Gustavo Spinetta, brother of Luis Alberto and Jorge Gonzalo Vizñovezky. It is an abstract painting, covering the entire cover, with a striking visual impact and vibrant color, predominantly red and blue. .
