Originally released on April 1983 in the US, by Metal Blade Records.
«Deliver Us» Is the debut album of the band with the original lineup and is one of the most influential albums in the history of epic and US power metal.
Unlike typical 1983 heavy metal, which was often fast and riff-heavy, Deliver Us featured songs heavily influenced by classical music, incorporating dramatic, moody, and almost theatrical compositions that stood out from the NWOBHM scene.
The album is technically an EP, lasting only 27 minutes across 6 tracks, making it a very brief but impactful introduction to their sound. Just like: Reign In Blood
«Deliver Us» is the only release with Damien King (Jack Rucker) on vocals.
Of course there’s the Lost And Lonely Days / Aliens single and the participation on Metal Massacre II
Following the band's appearance on the compilation, this release is considered one of the first major releases of Metal Blade Records. But the label did little to promote the band or put them on tour, treating it more like a product to be "pumped out" rather than a band to be developed.
The entire album was recorded for a very low budget of just 800$ on an 8-track machine. Due to the limitations of the 8-track setup, both bass drums and the bass guitar track had to be merged onto a single track.
During the recordings, Stewart Copeland (who was friends with the sound engineer) visited the studio and allegedly made fun of the band for their sound.
Hand-Painted Cover: The evocative, non-photographic cover artwork was a specifically commissioned, traditional painting created by artist Maureen Marten a friend of the band, based on direct, artistic input from Bill Tsamis.
The references on the tombs of the artwork: "Guardian Angel 26 August 1982" and "Deathmaster April 27 1982" likely refer to specific recording sessions or dates for pre-production demos of the Deliver Us material. Members of DoomSword took their pseudonyms from the cover artwork: Guardian Angel and Deathmaster
Aliases: All members did not use their real names, but mythical stage pseudonyms to add to their mystique: Bill Tsamis as "Destroyer", Mark Zonder as "Thunder Child", Jack Rucker as "Damien King", Diane Kornarens as "Sentinel" and The "Ghost" of the Bassist:
On the album, bass is credited to someone with the nickname "The Raven" In reality, there was no bassist; all bass parts were played by the band's founder and guitarist, William J. Tsamis.
