Sinatra's 11th studio album for Capitol, and 17th overall. Recorded on December 9, 22 and 23, 1958. Initially released mono on January 5, 1959, in the U.S.; the stereo version was released April 1959.
First Sinatra album for which the mono and stereo recordings were done on the same microphones, and for which the mono mix was created from the 3-track tape, as opposed to being an on-the-fly, live mix.
One of Sinatra's most successful albums, and spent two and a half years on the Billboard charts. Won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and the Grammy Award for Best Vocal Performance, Male. Billy May won the Grammy Award for Best Arrangement.
Reissued in 2022 on CD as part of Come Fly With Me (Europe 2022) (opens in a new tab).
