About
After 1992’s untitled release saw them transition from cerebral sound-collagists to scrappy lo-fi blues-punks, Royal Trux reinvented themselves once again as the world’s most surreal boogie-rock outfit on Cats and Dogs. Working with a proper backing band for the first time, Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema display a newfound command of thick, gritty grooves (“The Flag”) and simmering, wah-wah-splattered jams (“Teeth”), while playful Stonesy serenades like “The Spectre” and “Let’s Get Lost” shine like diamonds floating in the sewage.
