Casiopea is the debut album of the jazz fusion group Casiopea which was recorded between 1978-1979 and released later that year. The cover depicts two racecars racing each other on a raceway. Recorded between December 1978 and March 1979 in Japan, "Casiopea" is Casiopea's self-titled debut album. The album includes the participation of some notable contemporary jazz players such as David Sanborn on the saxophone, giving a special touch to Issei Noro's compositions. Tunes like Black Joke are part of the multiple performances and variances along Casiopea's career. This album was recorded on LP in 1979 as ALR-6017 and years.

Casiopea's self-titled debut album was originally released with a blue cover featuring the band with overlaid medicine tablets and capsules, designed by Hideaki Masago. Original 1979 pressings feature this cover and Alfa's red-ball label design; Alfa switched to a purple gradient-style label in spring 1980.
Sometime between then and November 1980, the album was fully redesigned by Alphabet, who had designed Casiopea's second album Super Flight. This features the iconic cover illustration by Toshikuni Okubo. Original pressings of this design have purple labels; Alfa switched to a plain white label design in 1981. They also changed distributors in 1983, from Victor to Warner-Pioneer.
