Caribbean / Weep Away
It has mistakenly been said, in print and otherwise, that the 1959 (2:25) Guyden hit is a reissue of the 1953 Abbott original. Listen closely and you will know they are two completely different recordings, albeit similar enough to fool the casual listener. For the first time, hear them back to back.
For openers, the vocal on the Abbott track begins about two seconds later than on the Guyden. Then on Abbott, in the verse about the monkey, Mitchell sings "I wonder why the people go to so MUCH trouble, yet on Guyden he says "so MUCH-A trouble." Also, he holds the note at the end on "FORMS" a tiny bit longer on Abbott.
