About
Though Buddy Holly was part of rock 'n' roll's first wave, his forward-looking songwriting and Norman Petty's clean production make it seem like this 1958 album was already pointing towards the future. Holly and The Crickets rock righteously on covers of Little Richard's "Ready Teddy" and Elvis' "(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care." But the contrast between those R&B-based tunes and the more sophisticated structures of Holly-penned classics like the rocking "Rave On!" and the gentle "Everyday" underline the West Texas rocker's visionary status.
