About

As promised in the famous refrain from “Karn Evil 9,” Brain Salad Surgery is a showstopper that never ceases to surprise with its deep chest of musical scenarios. Like a space chase through a meteor shower, the blitzkrieg of “Toccata” arrives at warp speed, while “Benny the Bouncer” could be the theme for an imaginary silent film comedy. With its buttery guitar, “Still…You Turn Me On” is a make-out classic, but “Karn Evil 9”—a collision of classical technique and feverish rock—captures ELP in fullest plumage.

Single from this release: Jerusalem.
A promo single entitled Brain Salad Surgery was released, but the title track did not actually appear on the album of the same name: however, the b-side, "Still.... You Turn Me On" did. "Brain Salad Surgery" finally did see an album release on Works (Volume 2), along with the b-side of "Jerusalem", "When The Apple Blossoms Bloom In The Windmills Of Your Mind I'll Be Your Valentine".
