Albert King’s second album, released in 1967, became a bible for blues and rock guitarists, including Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. His dynamic playing style is both precise and blistering on the title track, while the Stax house band—Booker T. & The M.G.’s—provides the soul fire and driving rhythms that elevate “Oh, Pretty Woman” and “Crosscut Saw” into much-imitated classics. Every track revitalizes and reinvigorates the blues, hinging on those unforgettable wailing licks that King squeezes from his guitar.
