About
Minimalism and miserablism both take a back seat on an ‘80s-influenced riot of melodic indie pop that shrugs off some of White Lies’ sharper edges. Not bad for a notional concept album. A tale of a small-town girl hitting the big city—and dreaming of that titular flatscreen—unfurls amid kaleidoscopic synth air-punchers (“Be Your Man”), throbbing bursts of New Romanticism (“Getting Even”), and the whooshing, undeniable uplift of “There Goes Our Love Again”.
