"Beaucoup Fish" is the fifth studio album by Underworld, released in 1999. It followed the success of the single "Born Slippy .NUXX," which had gained prominence through its use in the film "Trainspotting," and was among the band's most anticipated release. The album produced several single, including "Push Upstair," "Jumbo," and "Moaner," the latter of which had been featured in the film "Batman & Robin." "Beaucoup Fish" is the last studio album to feature Darren Emerson and the third by the techno- and house-oriented lineup of Underworld. The album was remastered and re-released in 2017 in deluxe and super-deluxe edition. The album was released after "Born Slippy .NUXX" helped establish Underworld's signature sound, characterized by stream-of-consciousness lyric, anthemic melodie, and driving rhythm. The lead single, "Push Upstair," highlighted the band's energetic piano-driven style. The album's working title was "Tonight Matthew, I'm Going to be Underworld," inspired by the catchphrase from the British television program "Stars in Their Eye." The title was later changed to "Beaucoup Fish," derived from a sampled voice in "Jumbo" pronouncing "bookoo fish," with "beaucoup" being French for "much." Tracks on "Beaucoup Fish" display a variety of style. "King of Snake" begins with a tape-edited guitar intro titled "Shudder," transitioning into a house track with sampled dialogue referencing snake baiting. "Skym" is a minimal ballad featuring mostly solo keyboard and light piano chords alongside Karl Hyde's vocal, while "Bruce Lee" incorporates elements more commonly associated with rock than trance. The album also includes a downtempo reinterpretation of "Push Upstair," titled "Push Downstair," retaining only the original vocal track. The version of "Moaner" included is slightly edited from its appearance on the "Batman & Robin" soundtrack. .
