If the feeling of pure love could be expressed through music, we think it would sound something like the tightly woven harmonies of The Civil Wars' Joy Williams and John Paul White on <i>Barton Hollow</i>. Singing together in tandem on virtually every line, the pair celebrate the traditions of American roots music as much as they do the experience of falling in and out of love, especially on the smoky, evocative "Poison & Wine" and the achingly poignant "Falling."
