Donna Summer expands her scope on her ambitious seventh album, bringing rock, country, and funk influences into the mix. The sizzling title track and the sultry “Hot Stuff” bridge the gap between sleek disco and spiky New Wave; “Dim All the Lights” turns longing into a dance-floor celebration; and the future-shocked “Sunset People” combines the pillowy synths and arpeggiated bass of “I Feel Love” with punchy, quick-stepping beats. Summer's versatile voice is a force to behold, and Giorgio Moroder's splashy productions are the perfect counterpoint.
